Cheshire's Animal Control Officers serve under the jurisdiction of the Police Department. The Officers have a wide range of responsibilities involving both domestic and wild animal calls for service. Some of the duties carried out by these officers include:
* work to prevent the spread of rabies * investigate complaints of potential rabid animals * enforce vaccination requirements for domestic animals * investigate animal bite complaints * impound and return or replace stray dogs * enforce the dog licensing requirements * examine and obtain care for injured or mistreated animals * dispose of sick or dangerous animals * issue summons The Officers are are assisted by a group of civilian volunteers who help care for and place animals with adoptive families. The Animal Control facility is a fully equipped to board and care for up to 18 dogs.

Wednesday to Friday:
8:00 a.m.to 8:00 p.m.
