TRASH AND RECYCLING COLLECTION SCHEDULE BY STREET
Green recycling containers are assigned to each residence. They should be placed curbside with the wheels away from the street. The lid must close.
A second container may be requested free of charge by emailing Ann Marie Hearn at [email protected] with your name, address, and the serial number on your present recycling bin.
Trash collection is automated. Gray trash containers are assigned to each residence. Containers should be placed curbside with the wheels away from the street and the lid opening streetside. They should be at least three feet away from any other container or obstruction. A second container can be purchased:
Application for an additional 96-Gallon container
Application to exchange for a larger (96-gallon) or smaller (64-gallon) container
Put containers curb-side the night before collection day. Trash/recycling may be picked up as early as 5:30 AM and pick-up times may vary from week to week. The following holidays always cause a one-day trash/recycle collection delay: Memorial Day Labor Day Thanksgiving Day. The following holidays cause a one-day trash/recycle delay IF they fall on a weekday: New Year's Day (1/1) Independence Day (7/4) Christmas Day (12/25)

Residents are reminded that the hauler picks up only normal household trash.
No hazardous materials
No leaves or grass clippings
No broken glass or other sharp objects unless they are securely wrapped and padded
No bulky items, furniture, construction debris, or carpeting

Monthly Electronics and Mattress Collection. The Town of Cheshire hosts a free Electronics and Mattress Recycling Collection on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1304 Waterbury Road (the old transfer station).
The October event will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024. To accommodate residents who cannot attend this regularly scheduled collection date due to the observance of Yom Kippur, there will also be a second October collection event on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Grass clipping and leaves as well as brush and branches will also be accepted on these October dates. Residents must empty grass clippings and leaves into the provided container. Leaves may be in biodegradable bags. The container is also accessible from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. every Monday morning. Brush and branches must be 6” or less in diameter and 4’ or less in length. Logs and stumps are not accepted. No contractors or landscapers are allowed. These collection events are open to Cheshire residents only, proof of residency may be required. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED: • Mattresses from futons, sofa beds, water beds, car beds, crib mattresses • Mattresses infested with bed bugs. • Mattresses that are wet, damaged, or excessively soiled • Sleeping Bags • Mattress pads, toppers, pillows, bedding • Furniture, other household items • Garbage • Smoke detectors • Car batteries • Appliances containing Freon, including AC units, refrigerators, and dehumidifiers • Stumps, Logs. Large branches over size limit.

Leaf disposal. A town-wide leaf collection is offered in the Fall.

DISPOSAL OF BULKY ITEMS A private transfer station located in Cheshire is available to Town residents who wish to dispose of bulky items that are not accepted in the weekly trash collection. THERE IS A FEE FOR MOST ITEMS, although up to seven electronics can be disposed of for no charge at this facility. For hours, fees and more information on the local private transfer station, please call 203-272-4039. There are additional private transfer stations in the area as well.

The CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection maintains a list of contractors that will dispose of dead wildlife on residential property.
