The Cheshire Veterans’ Advisory Committee is composed of seven (7) electors of the Town of Cheshire, not more than four (4) of whom shall be of any one (1) political party. A minimum of five (5) members shall be honorably discharged veterans of the United States Armed Forces. It shall be the duty of the Committee to:
(i) Assist veterans and their dependents in accessing services and benefits to which such veterans or dependents may be entitled; (ii) Assist in coordinating the activities of public and private facilities concerned with veterans' reemployment, education, rehabilitation, and adjustment to peacetime living; (iii) Cooperate with all national, state, and local governmental and private providers in connecting veterans and veterans' dependents with services and benefits to which such veterans or dependents may be entitled; (iv) Encourage and coordinate vocational training services for veterans; (v) Coordinate with veterans’ organizations, as practicable, to carry out the purposes of this subsection; (vi) Review and assess all existing memorials for veterans and recommend action for the repair and maintenance of such memorials to the Town Council; (vii) Engage in the planning of and provide recommendations for new veteran’s parks and memorials; (viii) Engage in the planning of veteran-related ceremonies; (ix) Serve as the Town's Memorial Day parade planning and execution entity; and (x) Provide proposals for educational programs. In addition, the Committee shall advise the Town Council on matters of concern to veterans and their families and on measures the Town Council can undertake to better serve the needs of veterans and their families.
The Committee meets regularly the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m.
